The cordless SDS hammer drill is a very good piece to have if you work in construction and need to drills holes for any a reason and on any surface. The only limitation is the efficiency of the battery.
The battery for the SDS hammer drills are usually around 36V, any less and it becomes very efficient to use them. Dewalt for example have recently releases a range of cordless hammer drills in the range of 28 to 36 volts. However due to the task involved with this type of power tool it drains the batteries very quickly and you will need to recharge them extremely frequently. Getting a second set is standard practice for most construction professionals.

Use good Drill bits
Using good drill bits such as the ones supplied by Dewalt will mean that less power is need to drill a hole. This can save a lot of battery which means that recharging can be less frequent. The drill bits do become blunt very quickly if you are using the wrong one for the job. Solid steel for example needs to be penetrated with only the toughest of drill bits which are in fact manufactured by Dewalt and Matika. When they become blunt then the torque needed to get through needs to be higher so make sure you set the settings correctly on your cordless SDS hammer drill.
Eventually your battery will be drained no matter how long you charge it for because it has been used too much. This is not a design fault of the manufacturers but rather the natural limitations of batteries in general.
